RFO Summary

A layer 2 broadcast storm originating from OpenIX peering in Jakarta triggered DDoS protection mechanisms on our primary Juniper router, causing ARP table expiration and dynamic routing protocol failures. The incident affected Zettagrid Cloud hosting services for approximately 46 minutes with intermittent connectivity issues.

During the outage, one VMware ESXi hypervisor experienced a system lock-up due to loss of management connectivity, requiring manual intervention to restore full service. This hypervisor failure affected a small number of customer Virtual Machines. Service was restored automatically when the external broadcast storm subsided.
